THE NEED FOR 16 MORE TRIKES OR SIDECARS FOR WOUNDED WARRIOR WEEKEND, 20 OCT 2007 HAS BEEN MET! THANK YOU! HAPPILY, WE REPORT THE STATUS OF THIS CALL TO ACTION IS NOW: CLOSED! See Update Below. Miracle on the Homefront First posted on 8 OCT 2007 at 2100. Last updated 19 OCT 2007 at 0326. Spartanburg, SC Please share this and spread the word to any trikers or sidecars in your aquaintance. Please be sure to get word to all regional chapters of PGR, Rolling Thunder, ALR, GWRRA, VNV, GOE, Marine Corp Riders, Amvets Riders and any other like minded groups. On Saturday 20 OCT 2007, and Sunday 21 OCT 2007, Spartanburg SC will be having at least 20 very special guests - Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed Hospital. We expect them to arrive at the Hampton Inn in Duncan, SC (just south of Spartanburg) between 1600 and 1700 (4pm, 5pm) on Saturday, 20 OCT 2007. I have been requested to try to round up 20 trike riders or motorcyclists with sidecars that would be able to ride these twenty Wounded Warriors at any opportunity, whether it be from the hotel to dinner or from dinner to the hotel, or in the Sunday morning parade. Much of this has not been approved by the government yet, so all plans are tentative. Your flexibility to respond, given such uncertainty, is appreciated. I currently have 4 trikes on board so far. Other motorcyclists are welcome to partake in the welcoming and escort of these heros. Much of the planning is “in the wind” right now, but as time nears more info will be available. Also, on Sunday morning at 8:15am, motorcyclists will likely be leading a procession which will be lining up in front of Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg. We are hoping to get approval from the government in order to allow the Wounded Warriors to ride with us on the trikes and in sidecars. Be advised that much will be changing between now and then, so please check with Ronnie Reb for updates. (Bikersmag is in close contact with RR, and will update this page as soon as situations become known). This is in conjunction with a day long parade and bicycle/walk-athon event in Spartanburg to honor and raise funding for the Wounded Warrior Foundation that will take place in Spartanburg on Sun. Oct 21st. The website for this is at http://www.carolinaschallengeorg/ The Heros from Walter Reed will arrive in Spartanburg between 4 and 5 pm on Sat. and have a dinner scheduled for them and PGR members and others at 6:00 at Capri's Italian Rest. in Boiling Springs. Looks like we'll meet at the Hampton Inn at exit 63 off I-85 in Duncan, SC. Boiling Springs SC is to the north of Spartanburg. Note that the restaurant has a very limited capacity, so if we get a huge turnout of motorcyclists, we will not be able to accomodate all at that restaurant, so you may need to find all your own accomodations. Please advise your members of this opportunity to support and fellowship with these brave troops who offered all they had in the war against terrorism in Afghanistan, Irag and other points of danger in the Mid-East. I hope we can raise the number of trikes to even more than the requested number for these soldiers. We owe them more than we have ways to repay. Please have anyone who would like to enjoy a ride, meal and fellowship with these troops to contact me so I can arrange logistics for this. Andrew Kinard Homecoming 10/27/2007 In the words of Ronnie Reb. 10/8/2007: We have another event on the following weekend to honor a young Marine that shouldn't still be with us but refuses to give up. This is one amazing young American Hero.
Lt Andrew Kinard, USMC A Young US Marine of Amazing Inspiration Click on Picture to Enlarge A true miracle in this day and time. He is the only human to ever learn to walk on two prosthetic legs, after losing one leg and hip and the other leg between the hip and knee. These were truly traumatic injuries, yet, they were on the minor side, compared to the major wounds he suffered. Andrew is making a triumphant homecoming trip from Walter Reid to visit his hometown, Spartanburg, SC on the 1 year anniversary of being severely wounded by an IED in Iraq. Thanks for helping spread the word. This weekend for Wounded Warriors was going to be coordinated with the Homecoming of Lt. Andrew Kinard. The whole town of Spartanburg and all who knew him, both in SC and NC ; were eagerly anticipating the two events, but Andrew decided to wait till the 27th, the anniversary of the day he was attacked to come home. He won't be able to stay but will have to return to Walter Reed after the homecoming. The Wounded Warrior Weekend has grown to such a grand event that it will be both weekends. The 21st for the Warriors and the 27th for Andrew. This photo is from our Patriot Guard Riders honor escort of Andrew from the Jacksonville Airport to the Wounded Warrior house on Camp LeJeune in April this year. I had the pleasure of an opportunity to welcome him back to his home base. He had undergone yet another difficult surgery the week before, but he was determined to be there to greet and welcome the troops who served under him in his unit when his Marines returned from their tour in Iraq. Stay tuned for more details as they unfold, Contact me for updates as the time draws near and plans firm up. They are in limbo; dependant on the powers in charge. Ron Semper Fi, Lt |
WILL THERE BE A MOTORCYCLE ESCORT FROM WALTER REED TO SPARTANBURG, SC? There are no formal arrangements at this time. We do not know if the Wounded Warriors will be traveling by bus or another mode of transport. As of now, there are no plans, but stay tuned. If there are some groups of bikers that would like to ride south (or from other directions!) to take part in the activities in Spartanburg SC, please begin making arrangements between yourselves, for arrival in Spartanburg SC between 1600 and 1700 on 20 OCT 2007, and check back for any more planned rides.
