Everyone who knows anything about Druids believes that the Romans killed them all when they invaded the British islands. They believe they got every last one of them. It was genocide commited in the name of Christianity. The Romans invented lies about the Druids all practicing witchcraft and having human sacrifices in bonfires. It is believed the Romans reported this back to Ceasar in order to have their acts be seen as vanquishing a bad lot of pagans who did not deserve life. Very little is actually known about the Druids. It is believed they were a peaceful people with a wonderful culture and established universities. It is also said that they did not believe in either writing or keeping records, and that their methods of passing along information from one generation to the next was through songs by bards and via lessons which involved the use of strung leaves, as they had no better parchment. It is said they did not raise arms against those who slayed them, and that when they met on the “battlefield” the most vicious thing they did was dance. What is known about Jesus is that he would have neither participated in nor condoned genocide. Yet, that is what the Roman Christian armies did. I compare Druids to the Native American people. The “Indians”, which the Europeans called them, were also called pagan. The use of the term was extremely derogatory and offered excuses to consider them unholy, so take their lands and do what ye may. Again, I do not see how a true believer in Jesus Christ could have possibly used this as justification to commit such atrocious acts. Despite the reports back to Rome, that there was a perfect genocide in which all Druids were killed, some people to this day claim to be descendants of the Druids. I do not believe all their claims, but I believe some of their claims, because... I, too, am a Druid. |
