Senator Tony Rand poised to act on NC Motorcycle Awareness Funding Proposal.
6/16/2005 Raleigh, NC
The publisher of
Worldwide Bikers met today with NC Senator Majority Leader Tony Rand (D-Cumberland County) to present a North Carolina Motorcycle Awareness Funding proposal. The Senator is going to get the proposal to the Highway Patrol and/or take other action on it. Since it is past filing deadlines, the bill would most likely be introduced during the 2006 session.

This would fund the production and distribution of attention getting professional radio ads with motorists as the target audience. We agreed that the Highway Patrol may be best suited for sending out the bid and administering the grant. We agreed that $50k used correctly should be able to produce several excellent ads. Senator Rand believes it may also cover the cost of a couple television spots. The ads would then be distributed for use as public service announcements by broadcasters, and serve as a reminder to motorists to be more aware of motorcyclists.

Thank you for responding to our URGENT National Call to Action. The Lautenburg Bill to deny motorcycle safety funding was Defeated!
5/11/05 Worldwide Bikers, Raleigh, NC
Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J), tried to deny funding for motorcycle safety programs to states that do not conform to his bubblewrap idealogies. The motorcycling community quickly alerted their Congressional reps and Lautenburg has been silenced for now. Read the

NHTSA releases FARS Data which states motorcycle fatalities and registrations have increased but total milage has decreased. MRF claims data is not accurate and questions why NHTSA would release data and publish recommendations based on known inaccuracies. April 21, 2005.

It is your community. Our rights are constantly getting walked on. Stop allowing them to treat us like second class citizens with no say. Speak your mind to your elected officials.

* Disclaimer: NCOM has some good information but it appears that it is still funded by AIM Attorney Lester who had a lawsuit I do not believe to be in the best interests of motorcycling. I will try and get an update on the facts before offering any endorsement of NCOM other than to say the NCOM site has good information.

It was worth a shot. I took some Black and White pictures of my 96 Harley-Davidson Sports 1200 XLH Go-Fast. Bailey doesnít look more vintage.

Note: I recommend looking into BOLT if, like me, you favor a more demanding stance on your governmental representatives.

How to Contact your Governmental Representatives: Try this Contact Link from Sons of Liberty Riders.

Speedtraps: I found these links. One is for the National Motorist Organization, NMA, and the other is speedtraps. Itís a good thing to check for speedtraps when planning trips. In South Carolina, avoid the sleazy little speedtrap town of Dillon. Also, in SC, they ticket Ape Hangers and straight pipe with no baffles. How the heck they continue to have a good turnout at the Myrtle Beach Bikeweek must be predicate on the helmet laws and decent climate, because it isnít because of crap little towns like Dillon.

Different Justice when Cage Drivers kill motorcyclists: Jay Jarman was killed 5/17/03, when his motorcycle was hit by a Mustang in Myrtle Beach, SC. The driver and owner of the cage fled the scene and went home to West Virginia. Later, the injustice system just slapped them on the wrist. Visit the Jarman families web site to learn more.

Bikers Rights are important.

So is the elimination of child abuse.

BACA stands for Bikers Against Child Abuse.

Which is the public burden?

Have you ever tried to have a discussion about motorcycle helmet laws with someone who drives an SUV or light truck and says that motorcyclists who donít wear helmets are a public burden? Do you know that one of the biggest reasons for an increase in motorcycle fatalities is the increased popularity of SUVís and light trucks? THEY ARE THE PUBLIC BURDEN. Think about it. You hit someone with your motorcycle, versus a cager hitting someone with their SUV. Consider their fuel economy. Consider their environmental impact.
